Maybe mastodon instances should be limited to be run by entities that are accountable for abuse on their instances or at least must meet some minimum threshold of enforcing a common set of community guidelines. Or, only let me follow users from such instances.

I’m like some aspects of Mastodon but a confusing signup process (which instance?), lack of search, inability to see other people’s followers, opaque control of instances, and, relatedly, a lack of process around stopping hate speech, are all problems I hope they solve.

I’ll be sad when (if?) Twitter dies because it really was the most interesting place on the Internet. Great people and ideas that weren’t available elsewhere. There is a real opportunity for a successor but I’m not sure what that is.

People point to AI as the next big thing in technology. The technologies that really transform society affect how people communicate and live. I’m not sure amazing digital assistants or generated content will have that effect.
