@melissamedinavo Mic Voice Must Die is the one that jumps out for me, because so many reads fall flat when the voice sounds like a performance instead of a person. Grounded, Not Boring is a close second, that balance is hard to teach and harder to hold.
@JDude48 Seven auditions in a week is a proper shift, and it sounds like the workshops gave you something solid to hold on to. Slowly but surely is exactly how this work builds, one read at a time.
@TheBeesKnees20@cygne_noirette That starting point matters. A coach can refine placement and rhythm, but they cannot conjure an accent from nothing in a short prep window, so the actor still has to arrive with the basics in their ear and mouth.
@anon_opin That is the bit that trips a lot of actors up. RP is a useful reference point, but it is only one accent among many, and casting usually wants a specific place and class, not a generic British sound.
@DiamondSpiderP@MidsandreMogger Exactly, an audition is only a sketch of the character, not the finished performance. Once casting is set, a dialect coach can tighten the sounds and keep them consistent take after take, which is the part people outside the room often miss.
Self tape due and the role is Cockney? The Cockney pack trains the real East End sound from native voices, th fronting, glottal stops, rhyming slang, no cartoon. #ActorsLife
The RP British pack is the one actors reach for when the breakdown says period drama. Long vowels, crisp consonants, real native voices. I have accent training packs for actors, 44 of them. #AccentTraining
Midwest is the accent that hides in plain sight. The Midwest Accent pack keeps the flat a and the clear rhotic r honest through real native voices. #Acting
@BarbedBeggar@bugcel_ Honestly, the 'acceptable' one is whichever fits the character. Scouse, Scottish, RP, they're all tools. It just depends on what the story needs.
@MartyVenti If it's for acting or voiceover, look for a coach with real stage or screen experience. Trial sessions tell you everything about whether you click.
@newusername1029 Fair point, and plenty of actors do exactly this. Still, having the accent ready when you tape can only help you book it. Directors notice when you've done the work.
@TylerJamesonVO Fully agree, acting style changes everything. Accents should be on that list too, since taping in your own voice only to be told it was Dublin all along is rough. It's such an easy fix.
@SophiaSheaVA Couldn't agree more. Slowing down to build the scene out of thin context is what makes a take land, especially when an accent is involved. The voice only works if the meaning's already there.
Self tape due Friday and the role is Geordie? The Geordie Accent pack trains the real Newcastle lilt from native voices, doon to toon. Musical, honest, no cartoon. #ActorsLife
The Yorkshire Accent pack is the one actors ask for when the breakdown says northern England. Real native recordings, the trap bath split, the flat intonation. I have accent training packs for actors, 44 of them. #AccentTraining
I have accent training packs for actors, built from real native recordings. The New England Accent pack covers Boston to Maine in one ear-first system. Details when you ask, always. #VoiceTraining
A Cajun accent is French roots wearing an American shirt. The Cajun Accent pack trains it through real Louisiana voices, so it swings instead of stumbling. #Acting
The Philadelphia Accent pack gets asked about more than you would think. Wooder, the ow diphthong, the Delaware Valley music. Real voices, no parody. #DialectCoaching
@AlexisTiptonVA@jadbsaxton That's the difference right there. Self-directed work gets you passable, but a coach catches the tiny placement shifts you'd never hear yourself. Your pronunciation probably jumped levels with proper guidance.
