“One young person wouldn’t come into the room at first due to having social issues and there were new people. During the session he was helping the trainers and walking around the room engaging with other young people due to the coaches being so accommodating and supportive.”
A box of bike parts. A group of students. One clear goal.
That’s The VeloBuild Project.
Students build their own mountain bike. Along the way they gain AQA Level 2 unit awards and something harder to measure but easy to see. Focus confidence pride.
Schools are full of theory. But some learners only switch on when the work in front of them is real.
That’s where The VeloBuild Project comes in.
The end result isn’t just a bike. It’s evidence that focus can last, that teamwork pays off, that progress is possible.
Not every student thrives at a desk.
The VeloBuild Project creates space for a different kind of success. It’s not about grades, it’s about seeing the bike take shape in front of them and knowing, "I did that!"
A place for every student. That’s The VeloBuild Project.
The Velobuild Project takes a box of bike parts and turns it into something bigger than transport.
That kind of learning changes how young people see themselves. Because once you’ve built a machine from scratch, finishing other challenges doesn’t feel impossible.
In The Velobuild Project, students don’t just learn about cycle mechanics, they build their own bike, part by part, from the frame up.
The final moment, riding away on a brand-new, safety-checked bike is proof that effort pays off.
That’s what we’re about at All Things Active.
Learning is enhanced when students make something that matters. In VeloBuild they build a bike part by part so planning, problem solving and teamwork become visible and valued.
What happens when you give a group of learners one clear job and the kit to do it?
The VeloBuild Project turns a box of parts into a working mountain bike for each learner in six hours. We run it on site with SEN trained mechanics.
If roles are clear, noise drops. If the job ends in something that rolls, effort repeats. If tools are respected, spaces stay tidy. If safety is logged, leaders relax. That chain reaction is VeloBuild. We bring the kit and the routine. The gains show up beyond the workshop
Leaders want impact they can point to. VeloBuild delivers it and the effects carry beyond the workshop.
Upon completion, staff report fewer interruptions across the timetable, more work finished in other lessons, steadier attendance and safer bikes on site.
VeloBuild looks like a bike programme. What it really builds is culture. You finish what you start. All Things Active delivers it so staff keep teaching and young people learn to trust their own effort. The working bike at the end is simply the evidence
The VeloBuild Project from All Things Active gives young people purposeful time with tools.
They plan, build, adjust and take their brand new bike for a spin.
We partner with schools to add this without fuss and with high standards
All Things Active helps young people switch off screens and switch on skills.
We put spanners in hands and attention follows. Build a wheel, tune a brake and ride what you made.
When confidence grows, behaviour steadies, attendance improves.
A bike isn’t just a bike.
- It’s freedom.
- It’s independence.
- It’s the first step towards growing up.
For many of the young people we work with, it’s the very first time they’ve had that experience.
That’s why The VeloBuild Project exists.
Too many young people are told what they can’t do.
At All Things Active, we show them what they can do — building bikes, learning survival skills, and growing in confidence.
Every child deserves more than limits. They deserve opportunities.
Our programmes pull young people away from screens and into real-world learning. From survival skills to cycling, we help them grow in confidence, build teamwork, and discover what they’re capable of.
Active kids aren’t just healthier — they’re happier and more resilient.
