If New York City is to maintain a sustainable economic footing, it must avoid overdependency on a small group of wealthy taxpayers. The issue isn’t whether they can bear the burdens, but that, beyond a certain threshold, they may choose not to and leave.

I cannot understand why the very government officials who were imposing rules on the rest of us and telling us to obey them thought they did not apply to themselves. Clearly they did not think the rules were crucial to safety after all.
