If you can break your AI problem down, an LLM is the 3D printer that can quickly create modules for your subtasks. No module should bear too much load, as they're all made of cheap plastic. But a 3D printer has countless uses. (Our previous 3D printer was MTurk.)

According to the license, you must name all models that use llama 3 in any way “LLaMa 3 XXX” llama.meta.com/llama3/license/ They don't say that you can't give your models nicknames though... "LLaMa 3 Robert Archibald Percival Fortescue Language Model" aka "BobLM"
RIP Daniel Dennett, a giant of philosophy (and also literally v. tall). I really enjoyed reading his work, and had the pleasure of meeting him at a few conferences in a past life as an aspiring philosopher. Philosophy of mind is a richer field thanks to him.

The US would be much stronger if it were more welcoming of talented people to come, work, and stay here. My parents were just barely able to immigrate here (bringing me with them). Had things turned out slightly differently, I would not be here today.

Ok I'm convinced I was wrong. Updated: "GenAI is the class of structured prediction problems in which the output is natural." (No clue what "natural" is, but def it includes text, images, code, video, speech, molecules, DNA, etc. and probably not parse trees or bounding boxes.)
Convince me I'm wrong: Generative AI is the new name for structured prediction. An interviewer asked for a def of GenAI & offhand: "an AI system that generates a complex output at once (vs a single prediction)" I later realized that's ≈identical to the def of SP I'd give ~2005

Sorry to hear about the passing of Daniel Kahneman. His work on the System 1/System 2 distinction influenced our work on meta-learning, especially in the age of exploring new models of computation as neural-architecture design, then as neurosymbolic program synthesis. RIP 😢
Over my career, I've served on 53 Ph.D. dissertation committees. Five of the students have been named "Michael". There was also a "Mykel" and a "Michail". Homophily, you've gone too far.
