A storm short-range weather models didn’t see. Breaking down how a storm over Lake Victoria could have been predicted using nowcasting. Currently, there is one tool people in Kenya can use to access real-time storm information: FASTA tinyurl.com/mubyhk3v

The ability to predict heavy rain and floods in Africa is urgently needed. In this paper a freely available nowcasting package, pySTEPS, is used to assess the potential to provide nowcasts of satellite-derived convective rain rate for West Africa. doi.org/10.1175/WAF-D-…
