Flawed argument: Stochastic parrot -> lacks common sense, cannot comprehend, do reasoning. If a stochastic model assigns lower probability to the "right" common sense completion, it only means that the stochastic model is bad. A good model would do it correct, by definition.
My new favorite thing - Bing's new ChatGPT bot argues with a user, gaslights them about the current year being 2022, says their phone might have a virus, and says "You have not been a good user" Why? Because the person asked where Avatar 2 is showing nearby

It's Saturday. My 3yo is napping right now. Once he wakes up, I'll go fire up some H100's and help him code some of the easy ideas I have in the back of my mind. We might do it just in time for NeurIPS. Gotta start early and completely abuse my privilege, or so I heard🚀🚀🚀
I arrived in Korea. I'm moving to KAIST.
@idavidrein Believe it or not, papers are not purely about getting the best number :) If it helps everyone the same, it does not add new information but creates useless extra work and takes useless extra space. One of these rare magical times the whole community just implicitly agreed.
@francoisfleuret I used to play a lot of hockey, even reasonably well, now it suddenly makes sense why i mysteriously like the review process.
@fouriergalois @sherjilozair I shouldn’t discuss details, but we now do have a path to publish salient results even in the age of Gemini v GPT v Claude. It’s not as simple as before, but in this competitive landscape, I think that makes sense. What I’m saying is, expect more.
On a personal note, you may think that during this time of license change, forks, dramas, many persons would stress me out with questions or insults or forcing me in some way or the other. The reality? The community is simply exceptional. Zero questions, zero stress. Just smiles.
@deliprao To be fair, the human representatives I get are quite often pretty useless for complicated questions... I just had a frustrating reminder of that today (although I'm not going to call out the particular company here)
I absolutely love this idea of putting negative results in gray. This is a gift you can give to readers for the low effort of throwing in a few annotations while writing. Also, the gray with black is not jarring at all.
@sedielem We showed something very similar in the context of systematic generalization. The model can overfit to certain types of inputs, where it generalizes well, while for others, the performance degrades with training. See Fig. 5 in arxiv.org/pdf/2108.12284…
Our #GPTSwarm models Large Language Model Agents and swarms thereof as computational graphs reflecting the hierarchical nature of intelligence. Graph optimization automatically improves nodes and edges. arxiv.org/abs/2402.16823 github.com/metauto-ai/GPT… gptswarm.org
@david_picard In my opinion, this is nonsense, starting from "intangible".
The original post by Max, as well as the reactions by Yann, etc., are not even wrong. As a computer scientist, I'll get us started: W.t.f. does it mean to be "self aware"? Once we define it, we can go about asking about whether Claude has it. I'll be here all week.
This is getting out of hand! - Will Smith
Can't believe I made it in the end 🎊😇 Thanks to everyone at @UniofOxford, @ExeterCollegeOx and @OATML_Oxford for the at times stressful, often beautiful, and always inspiring and memorable time 🙏🫶
I was fortunate to read machine learning under Schmidhuber at @TU_Muenchen . It was my favorite lecture, thanks to him and his TAs. If he had not left Munich right after, I would have switched to ML sooner. Maybe a bit eccentric, but a truly visionary professor.
2010 foundations of recent $NVDA stock market frenzy: our simple but deep neural net on @nvidia GPUs broke MNIST arxiv.org/abs/1003.0358. Things are changing fast. Just 7 months ago, I tweeted: compute is 100x cheaper, $NVDA 100x more valuable. Today, replace "100" by "250."…
@albertzeyer @giffmana That's good to know, thanks for pointing it out. My main point is that universities are training thousands of AI researchers and industry benefits tremendously from this, so funding in universities is key for AI progress.
Sora can generate multiple videos side-by-side simultaneously. This is a single video sample from Sora. We didn't stitch this together; Sora decided it wanted to have five different viewpoints all at once!
