Surge pricing should be banned, if a hotel room near a venue or stadium is £50 on a normal weeknight then it's completely unacceptable for it to be £300 just because Taylor Swift or another popular artist is in town.
@anon_opin Have you never heard of the concept of ‘supply and demand’?
@anon_opin So you’d rather pay £150 all the time instead of being able to get it cheaper sometimes and expensive others.
@anon_opin Hotel operators would say £50 is a discounted price - £300 is the undiscounted price. No need to discount when there's a big event on
@anon_opin It’s the law of supply and demand. The greater the demand the higher the price. Consumers can act in a way that will lower prices but they don’t
@anon_opin Correct, everything should cost £50 regardless of scarcity and supply. This includes gold, printer ink and bread.
@anon_opin Fair play but you've just ruled out capitalism generally.
@anon_opin Ok well I kind of agree with this, capitalism is spoilt by extreme profiteering. The logical conclusion of this is only rich people get to have that experience, this is not a great outcome and it's happening more and more. Some kind of middle ground is required, capped pricing?
