Asset owners are the only winners in this economy. The top 0.1% saw a +$29.76 million increase in real net worth per household from Q4 2024 to Q2 2026. Over the same period, the top 1% experienced a +$5.83 million surge in inflation-adjusted net worth per household. By comparison, the bottom 50% saw an increase of just +$1,960 per household. In other words, the top 0.1% has gained +15,183 times more wealth per household than the bottom 50% since 2024. The top 0.1% has seen their real wealth rise +$4.44 trillion over this period, while the bottom 50% added just +$198 billion. Own assets or be left behind.

The housing market is completely "stuck." 30-year mortgage rates are hovering around 7%, making most homes unaffordable for new homebuyers. Meanwhile, the Fed *still* has $1.96 trillion (!) of mortgage-backed securities on its balance sheet. It has been decreasing its holdings of MBS over the last four years, but very slowly. The Fed has *more* MBS on its balance sheet than it had prior to the Covid lockdowns and the extreme monetary policies of 2020. As a reminder, the Fed's holdings of MBS on its balance sheet prior to 2009 were... zero. Where would the 30-year mortgage rate be if the Fed were not at all involved in asset interventions in the bond market generally, the MBS market specifically? Would home prices be *lower* now, perhaps far lower, making the housing market actually *more* affordable without the Fed's interventions?

Investor allocations to Bonds has drifted to the lowest level since... *checks* oh, just immediately prior to the Global Financial Crisis. (and similar to dot com peak) This is ..fine, right? 😬
