Zain Javaid spent $3.4 million of Ghosts $11 million total funding on GPUs in one call. I went INSIDE @ghostai with @zainmfj and the team as they worked to scale production to build more personal AI computers at their San Francisco factory. They are tackling one of the hardest venture scale verticals, AI consumer hardware. So the question is, how fast can they scale while overcoming the many hurdles their unique path brings, as interest in their product significantly expands. Personal AI Computers vs Cloud Agents, and why the future is local, unlimited, and personalized tokens: 1. Incentives. cloud agents maximize data collection and usage while minimizing the amount of compute they serve you, for cost/revenue. You're the product. Oki Home and other personal AI computers do the opposite: we maximize the number of tokens we serve to consumers while still keeping all their data in their hands. The business models that cloud agent services claim to have - commissions on shopping, etc - are still available to us; but we have no incentives to squeeze consumers because hardware is already profitable on day 1, and we're simply not scrambling to recoup costs. Local just has better aligned incentives. 2. Capabilities, and the future of distributed computing networks. I and many other in the community such as @0xSigil see a clear trend: local is consistently ~6mo behind cloud frontiers. This means by next march, we're going to have Astra capabilities on the Oki Home. There’s a threshold of intelligence beyond which a model can meet 99.9% of consumer needs, and local models are on track to reach it. Distributed Computing: At Oki we've experimented extensively with pipeline parallelism. By loading 20% of a model’s layers onto each of five Oki Homes, we can, counterintuitively, achieve higher aggregate token throughput under concurrent requests than the five devices running independently. (Think of a token manufacturing line.) This power is significantly amplified if we run much larger models: a collective of Oki Home's excess compute can be used to power trillion parameter level models at low latency, or have that compute be used for robotics, wearables, and future consumer intelligence needs. The future is limitless, personalized intelligence, and local is the way to go. @shloked great post btw! I'd also love to hear your thoughts / initiate a discussion on this.
