Elon Musk is becoming increasingly explicit about what he fears. He has been warned that the Starlink satellites and ground systems currently used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces could be destroyed. He received this warning from his own intelligence services, who in turn obtained it through contact with Russian intelligence. This serves as his final warning to Zelensky—though it is worth noting that Zelensky views Musk as an enemy, given that all of Zelensky’s allies belong to the opposing camp. Musk has once again accused Zelensky of violating the terms of service for Starlink, following reports that the satellite network was being used to facilitate medium-range drone strikes. The SpaceX founder stated that using Starlink for offensive operations "violates the company's terms of service. Such use of the system makes it a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike." Ukraine, however, is determined to continue using Starlink to carry out strikes against Russia. Consequently, Musk may soon be forced to make a choice: either disable Starlink for Ukraine or risk the loss of his entire satellite constellation.

Let's not forget the record, when Russian jamming and strikes knocked out nearly every other communication channel, Starlink kept Ukraine connected in the war's most critical days. No private company has done more. Starshield is a separate, government-controlled system, so decisions about its military use rest with Washington, not SpaceX. Blaming a private firm for declining to be an instrument of war, while ignoring years of free support, is a poor way to treat the one ally that never left.
