2 Sept 1691: d. Shen Fuzong Michael Alphonsus of Nanjing of shipboard fever en route from Lisbon to Goa. Shen had toured Europe with plans for new Jesuit missions in China. In 1687 James II asked Godfrey Kneller to paint Shen's portrait which is still in The Royal Collection.
