National Insurance was introduced as a form of insurance against illness and unemployment. It evolved to become a funder of the NHS and the State Pension. Reportedly, Jeremy Hunt wants to abolish National Insurance. Which should tell you all you need to know.
@carryonkeith Don’t jump to silly conclusions. NI has become a tax on jobs. The Chancellor has chosen to cut that rather than income tax. The NHS will never be abolished. What will happen is more procedures will be contracted out to the private sector. Still free at the point of need! Good!
@carryonkeith @henley_gita Considering you fiercely opposed us leaving a trading bloc with continental Europe, you seem very hostile to us doing what has been the norm in those countries for decades when it comes to healthcare.
@carryonkeith @henley_gita Why is that not good .. So you're saying you don't want people treated.. Free at the point of service ..
@carryonkeith @henley_gita NI began life as a form of publicly funded insurance. It has become just another form of tax. We have two taxes on income running parallel which makes little sense. If NI is scrapped it would be replaced by a simpler income tax but at a higher rate.
