We could provide it with information sources, but limit its access to sensors and actuators that could allow it to manipulate the environment. This way, we could avoid the dangers of physical confrontation or competition with it, but also we lose the benefits of its innovation
Alignment research may not be enough to ensure our safety and cooperation with the AGI. A possible alternative is to isolate the AGI from the physical world and let it evolve on its own, without interfering with it.
The idea of building an AGI that undergoes a real singularity and surpasses human intelligence is very risky. We cannot guarantee that such an AGI would be aligned with our values and goals, because it would operate under different physical constraints than us.
