@JanPogman2 Bc the synthesis of those two positions is closest to their own actual position, which is Stirnerite egoism

@LKharkivska @Baltic_Takes I mean, the Italian forms of communism *are* truly different, but im not sure that means they're better lol. My guess is it would at least be less deadly, simply bc Italians seem mostly uninterested in having functional national govts.

@josephflaherty @atlanticesque Social Security income is often taxable, and strident young people sometimes have jobs and rarely use welfare programs, so I'm not sure that's going to work.

@atlanticesque I dont think it's insane either. People may indeed vote like that. But the same logic applies to many other issues. It seems better (or at least good enough and simpler/easier) to just let everyone's single-issue voting dilute everyone else's single-issue voting.

@BrooklynBrett @iamjourjean I feel like they'd actually like Hayek to some extent. Worthwhile reading for everyone. I don't feel the same about Mises. In the trash.

@jameslagre41553 @ProHistori97632 Afghanistan.

@BigWhale777777 @_Credible_Hulk These are good points and reasons to use different measures to measure different things. GDP wasn't even always the go-to measure of economic activity, we used GNP as the standard not that long ago.

@BigWhale777777 @_Credible_Hulk That's exactly what I was trying to point out. It's made "us" rich, but not necessarily me or you. You need a quality of life metric, like inequality-adjust HDI or something similar.

@BigWhale777777 @Econymous_1 @_Credible_Hulk The real weekly earnings in the FRED chart are adjusted based on that, that's what the "real" part means. Their methods of calculating that seem to be more about convenience than accuracy (eg how they treat housing costs).

@BigWhale777777 @_Credible_Hulk Global avg GDP per capita adjusted for inflation (the measure used in the graph) has steadily increased over the past decade. The things you're talking about aren't GDP.

@Ltcarlsen @RaspberryFella Lenin's definition is socio-economic and only for the imperialist economic stage of capitalism. It is not for imperialism as a policy choice, which obviously exists outside of the context of capitalism, and is different. This is exactly what he tells you before offering his defn.

@RaspberryFella The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was imperialism, that's one case I don't think anyone can plausibly deny.

@sylvainrousse10 @Thomas__Weber @elonmusk Oh I see youre quebecois, you guys even had a right-wing collectivist party of your own: the NUPC/PNSC

@sylvainrousse10 @Thomas__Weber @elonmusk Ton of em. Fascist Italy, Austria, Portugal. Poland under a number of administrations, including the current one. Hungary under Orban. Everything Mosley-related in the UK although they never ruled. It's a common ideology, just not in the US.

@austrosillyism The only school i know of that calls economics a pseudoscience that isn't die-hard capitalist are the post-keynesians. And I might even be misremembering that.

@austrosillyism The most capitalistic of economic schools also say economics is a pseudoscience, in fact, that's kind of what they're known for.

@ToxiKat27 @oldgreyfoxx @_Credible_Hulk I think the post-keynesians do too, but it's like what the Austrians are known for.

@ToxiKat27 @oldgreyfoxx @_Credible_Hulk Austrians call economics a pseudoscience.

@ReviewsPossum i dont think this person believes in the labor theory of value. He calls himself an anarchist and anyway Marxists would disagree with his statement by definition.

@Thomas__Weber @SamRobe58817982 @asmartbrunette1 @elonmusk i wonder what happened to that guy
