The way Sarah Vaughan spoke Roy Haynes’ name, on the track Shulie A Bop, and his blazing drumming, seared his playing into my memory. Seeing him perform in Boston in the 1990s is a cherished memory. My condolences and respect go out to the Haynes family.

RIP jazz drum legend Roy Haynes, who leaves us at age 99. What an amazing career…. Along the way, he performed with John Coltrane, Lester Young, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Chick Corea, Sarah Vaughan, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, and many, many others.

Today I express my grief and anger for the waste of lives and potential due to the unrelenting Jihadi hatred of Jewish people. This weekend’s terrorist attacks laid bare the perpetrators’ cruelty and the genocidal intent of Hamas’ supporters. Israel stands strong.
