@hollowearthterf Feels like this flavour of engagement bait is running a bit dry don't you think Alicia. Though I guess it worked on me so good job

You're misunderstanding what the film's frame narrative is doing here. It's a little bit like reading Frankenstein and saying “Scientist makes monster. Monster turns out to be articulate. That's it. There's nothing else there." Like yeah, you've correctly identified the event, but you've entirely overlooked what the event does to the structure of the work. It's true that at one level, the format is well worn. Political caricature is familiar, self-reflexive theatre is familiar. But the film's relationship to that familiarity is explicitly part of its subject. Within the film, Fossil Fools is a 20 year old play being revived. Its critique has existed for decades, and the catastrophe it warned about has happened anyway. The tired quality of the satire isn't incidental to the film's treatment of political art.

Too many of you seem to think that good colour grading = juice the saturation/contrast sliders

@sardonic_greek I often find it helpful to watch movies in order to understand scenes from them

I'm not sure I agree with that tbh. Jackass: The Movie rules and I wouldn't say its value really depends on having something substantive to say. I love Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers, which also does not much of substance going on. Even still, I do think Digger has quite a lot to say about representation and catharsis, and about how power structures absorb dissent. Those ideas aren't particularly groundbreaking on their own, but to me that's not a prerequisite for a film to be worthwhile.

Yeah it keeps pulling the Frankenstein move where the Creature initially exists as Victor's monster, and then the Creature gets to speak and the object has become a subject. Digger is the monster and then he speaks, and then Curtis speaks, then Hannah speaks, then Kenny speaks etc. 'You're both right'
