In the US, so-called "gun culture" is fundamentally built on (1) settler-colonial white supremacist expansionist desires to accumulate and guard private property and (2) the "necessity" to quell slave rebellions and control Black people. Uprooting those two things is necessary.

In Judaism, if you say a prayer over something, then fail to do the requisite action that follows, like blessing bread and not eating it, it’s a bracha levatla - which is a sinful act. If you pray for victims of gun violence but do nothing, it is a sinful act.

Prior to the 1918 pandemic, people regularly memorialized plagues in literature. There are countless examples of people using storytelling to process the costs of mass disease. Homer. Sophocles' Oedipus the King. The Decameron. Daniel Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year. 7/

There’s a Somali saying that the ear is older than the eye (dhegta ayaa ka da’ weyn isha). Through oral tradition we learn about people and places we’ll never see. And in the womb, we hear the outside world before we ever lay eyes on it. So much wisdom in a simple phrase.

"Replacement theory" has for ages had a home in academia and been peddled as "scholarship." Lets not forget Harvard's long-time employment of Samuel P. Huntington whose book's warned of "invasion" and "high fertility rates" of immigrants and BIPOCs.
