"The A’s are sliding from the tenth-largest market in sports to the 20th-largest on their way to the 40th-largest, and no one is stepping in to stop it." -- @joe_sheehan joesheehan.com
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan Oakland isn’t the 10th biggest market in anything (Except maybe crime)
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan 41. Million. Visitors. A. Year. Can’t. Be. Disregarded. Count the TVs in the hotels and suddenly Las Vegas is a much bigger market. The owners know this. So do you
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan Because we have really highly regarded attorney who specializes in labor law as commissioner. I was no fan of Bud Selig, but I believe he had some understanding of the fan experience. I can't imagine he would have allowed this to happen on his watch.
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan I’m very curious about this. If they are moving to a smaller market I assume the implication is that they will make less money. But that can’t be what that owner thinks. So what is their expectation with revenue?
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan Did anyone stop the Golden State Warriors from biting Oakland? How about the Raiders? See a pattern yet?
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan Vintage Rob Manfred
@craigcalcaterra @joe_sheehan Kinda feels like their goal was always to be small time and anonymous. What better way than to slink away to the smallest market in baseball and be a permanent away team?
