Can’t make it out of April without my annual plea for @CommonApp to find a way for colleges to upload decisions and financial aid to the platform. Once a student commits, then they get access to their institution’s portal — not before. The portals are just too much to manage.

I knew it was coming, but I am livid over the new FAFSA timeline. We know "by Dec. 31" doesn't mean "early December," so it's nearly guaranteed to launch when schools are closed, colleges are closed, and students/counselors need a break.

While I was at #NACAC2023 last week, this was announced. Two books—"Atomic Habits" and "The Power of Habit"—changed how I think about my routines. We need a similar book to shift how we approach the college search. I hope this 📖 will show how Plan B sometimes should be Plan A.

My senior just now, “These colleges need to back the F off.” Me: “What do you mean?” He proceeds to read me the entire list of unopened/unread college emails he has in his inbox. And y’all…omg he right. The amount of emails is ridiculous.

Two college counselors tell me that they’ve met with multiple HS seniors this week who have a TOTAL of > $1 million in scholarship offers … but not one college that they can afford. ☹️

If your college doesn’t require test scores but, when questioned about stingy aid, you say that students should have submitted test scores, you’re not test optional. Honestly, I’d rather you just require them at that point. At least those schools are owning it.
