Here’s how I see AI and work most likely playing out… The AI arms race is quickly leading us into a world where AI models have commoditized human intelligence. The cost of doing highly capable mind based work will trend toward the marginal cost of the electricity and hardware used to power it… literally pennies on the dollar compared to the cost of their human counterparts. AI, combined with the natural forces of competition and capitalism, will trim all the fat and inefficiencies out of companies, and I hate to say it, but humans will soon start to look like the fat. An 80% human / 20% AI powered company will struggle to compete against an 80% AI / 20% human powered company, as the latter will be faster, smarter, and leaner. I predict that somewhere around 50% of “white collar” jobs won’t be needed in the next 18-24 months (36-48 months max). Companies that try to maintain the status quo will falter and fail vs. their AI native competition, and so there will be an accelerating, compounding push to integrate AI as fast as possible. Where does this lead humans and the future of work? Well, in the near to mid-term, it will lead many humans straight into unemployment. The path forward won’t be to get a new job with the same skill set, because that skill set won’t be needed anymore. Competing with AI for a mind based job within a company will be a tough, if not impossible task as time goes on. Sure, there will be new forms of work we haven’t imagined today, but I don’t believe they’ll offset the massive amount of displacement. UBI might help pay for your basic necessities in life, but it won’t be a path that results in feeling dignity, or generating wealth. The most rewarding, and likely path forward I see is one of entrepreneurship — mass entrepreneurship. In fact, I see this as a beautiful step forward, where people no longer need to work in a monotonous 9-5 and deal with stupid office politics. Instead, they’ll need to level up, and learn to leverage AI for their own creations. People will be able to deliver value to the world through the power of their creativity aligned with their passions, fueling their business(es) with an army of AI agents helping to build, market, and serve their happy customers (and, of course, the agents will also handle all the taxes and tedious stuff). I believe AI will unlock a whole new generation of entrepreneurs, and mass unemployment may just be the catalyst necessary to activate this evolution of work.

Our differences don’t need to divide us, they can unite us — unite us as unique humans, each with our own unique skills, traits, and beliefs. What divides us is our media, the two party nature of our government, and the algorithms that fuel our division for increased engagement and revenue. I wish that it was easy for people to see this, and for this problem to be solved. However, the masses are addicted to smart phones, social media, and information sources designed to develop and cement extreme views. The center doesn’t sell. It feels to me that we are headed into a period of greater civil unrest, rising socialism, financial instability, and worldwide hyperinflation of fiat currency. We have lost touch with nature, the magic of our creator, and the magic of each other. Our emotional circuits are fried and people are struggling to stay afloat in this hamster wheel of an economy. What are you supposed to do about it? I have a lot of thoughts on this, perhaps best for another post, or another platform (NOSTR). In short, I’ll just say a few words. Develop self sovereignty. Get off your phone and social media as much as possible. Prioritize health and wellness. Have kids, grow your family. Love deep and appreciate life — it’s not that long, and can be cut short in an instant.

Deeply saddened by the death of Charlie Kirk. It hits on a level that’s not fully explainable with words. RIP Charlie. My deepest condolences to your family and friends. May your children grow up knowing their Father was a courageous, loving human who stood strong for his beliefs and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. I admired him greatly for that, even though I didn’t agree with all his viewpoints.

Very few of us know the people at the tip of the spear. We can make the biggest impact by uniting against the handle, making that behavior far more taboo than it is now.

When people see the right fighting the left, and the left fighting the right, they think it’s a battle. In reality, it’s the same monster with two heads.

Are you living in a local maximum? Question where you live, how you live, what matters, who matters, what’s even real… It’s easy to set up a comfortable life in a local maximum, but to leapfrog to the global maximum, or get close to it, takes both vision & the courage to act.

In 2025, robots will start getting human-level brain implants, in 2026 they will start taking human-level jobs, and in 2027, humans will start to exceed the cost of robots. Heavy disruption incoming. Going to be interesting!

Life is too short. Let’s fucking go. To anyone that has tried to manipulate or lied to me in the past, disparaged my character, or taken advantage of me or the situation — I forgive you. That said, don’t ever fucking do it again. I am not afraid to speak truth, share the facts, and call out the bullshit, no matter the consequences. Public apologies accepted.

The world around us should be run with AI and we should interface with it primarily via voice, and then Neuralink or equivalent in the future. Text based input will fade away and our phones, as we know them today, will turn into relics of the past.

While I wouldn’t describe it as “glorious” exactly, as you need to figure out hard problems and scrape by at times, my experience in YC was an interesting, demanding, fun, and rewarding decade — I look back fondly on the experience, and to top it off, we built a product that helped millions of people succeed.
