For the record, the loveliest form of English is Canadian English: you get the glamour of the letter ‘u’ liberally sprinkled around, single quotes for dialogue, but none of that nasty replacing ‘z’ with ‘s’ in words like in ‘recognise’ (which just looks weird).

@decastell I've learned (learnt?) to be ok with spelling either side of the Atlantic except for the word Laser. Light Amplification for Stimulated Emission of Light makes no sense if the S becomes a Z!
@decastell As a fellow Vancouverite, I must agree with this. We are, as always, both the most charming and the most welcoming version of the language.

@decastell British English can have either 'z' or 's'. (Unfortunately) the OED's preferred style, which many publishers follow, is to go with the 'z'. I have worked for some who follow OED apart from this.
