SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Hi @andyburnham there needs to be a law against this happening. Fine for employees to use AI to help productivity in their job. But sacking people and replacing them with AI is incredibly dangerous. Something needs to be done before we’re all out of jobs!

getty images spent years watermarking every photo on the internet. sued stability AI for training on their library. demanded the AI companies pay up. called it theft. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy this week. the AI companies didn't pay. they just... kept going and designers stopped buying stock photos. and the $500 licensing fees stopped making sense when midjourney exists. and the debt piled up. a company whose entire business model was "we own the visual record of human history, pay us" just got outrun by a model that learned from that record and started giving it away for free. The irony is that the watermark is still on every image in the archive. even the ones nobody's licensing anymore.
