@DrHWazir The medical profession has to realise that the government simply doesn’t want doctors anymore. At least, not in the NHS. It believes the NHS doesn’t need them & believes there are cheaper alternatives. I doubt the government cares one way or the other what they do outside the NHS

There are more than enough under/unemployed GPs to replace every Physician Assistant in 1° care ASAP. They need no supervision, can write their own scripts & order ionising radiation themselves. That frees up ‘supervising’ GPs to see more patients too. Win win @wesstreeting 🙌🏼

Now that physician associates will be renamed as physician assistants and their scope of practice will become more limited, there is no need for them to be regulated by the GMC. This wasn’t discussed in the recent Leng Review but it is another change the government should make.

@BMA_James_Steen @lengreview As I have said all along, the outcome of the Leng review (which I've yet to read in full) is irrelevant. The infection of UK medicine with assistant roles can occur ONLY with the acquiescence of doctors. United, WE have the power to stop it: refuse to train/supervise/engage.
