Look, I’m playing the long-game here. I’m a 43-year-old Dad and husband and we have greatly reduced our family’s risk by wearing high quality masks in public indoor spaces and we have invested in air purifiers throughout our home, workplace and given them to family members because we feel its a logical thing to do, given what we know about how serious this really is.
@drseanmullen I like the way you worded - playing the long game. It’s hard to keep wearing a mask even knowing I am the only staff member who hasn’t been sick in two years. I will just keep reminding myself about the long game.
@4catsandadog1 Be prepared not to define the length of the game. Set your mindset to ‘as long as it takes.’
Good idea... I like your thinking. My children are coming home at the weekend. My partner and I have recently been vaccinated (in January). I have cerebral palsy, he's had whooping cough as a child. They will take the necessary precautionary measures to come home safely, but they're also attending my niece's engagement party, which we're not going to. Life goes on with difficulty. Many are faced with getting into a life vs being a recluse, which isn't sustainable. The whole Covid thing is a mess.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 My answer for defining the long game is whenever there’s a nasal vaccine (or other) that’s at least 98% effective at stopping transmission. This seems to lesson how judgy people are toward me.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 It will be for any foreseeable future. There are lots of viruses out there, and it’s nice not to catch them very often.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 As a single parent my son and I are both clinically vulnerable. Unfortunately are lives have completely changed. We are still shielding now home educating we occasionally go on trips but avoid people. Life is isolating yet happy/peaceful & we are staying safe no colds etc.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 We've done the same.... We don't usually have the HEPAs on at home as we're masked outside of our home, but we like open windows. We turn HEPAs on if workman come in and they must mask...
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 What I did from the beginning. Assumed minimum of 3-5 yrs with possibility it would continue far beyond that timeframe...& expecting other spillovers as well.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 I will admit...one of the frustrating things after watching 5 seasons of The Walking Dead...the "as long as it takes". Now it's in real life and it is hard...but necessary.
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 In WWII they had rationing of consumer goods & even food, & many other restrictions. The phrase they used for how long they would have to endure this was "for the duration".
@drseanmullen @4catsandadog1 This is what I’m struggling with. It’s four years. I’m the only one in most contexts I go into that masks. It’s hard.
