My Shoes and I 👞🇸🇻🇬🇹🇲🇽🇺🇸 Today, we used one of my FAVORITE picture books to discuss & identify the elements that needed for a GREAT narrative — My Shoes and I picture book by @renecolato is by far one of my favorite books to use in our #movingstories unit. Mario’s immigrant journey is so compelling & René Colato does a FANTASTIC job using all the elements that make a great narrative. I read the book aloud first. As we listened, we discussed at a deeper level what the author is sharing about the characters BEFORE migration life, Crossing border experience, and AFTER migration life. Elements we identified: ☑️ Characters ☑️ Settings️ ☑️ Exposition (Before migration) ☑️ Conflict (push/pull factors) ☑️ Rising Actions ☑️ Climax ☑️ Falling Actions ☑️ Resolution Tomorrow, we will be looking at 3 more elements: 🔘 Point of View 🔘 Theme 🔘 Onomatopoeia We will also add an activity to have YOU walk a mile in our shoes. Stay tuned! #WebLife #TeachingNewcomers #TeachingESL @reimaginemigrat
