Scattered along the windswept tundra east of Nome, Alaska, these isolated fishing cabins at Safety Sound are part of a centuries-old tradition of seasonal subsistence. Families return each summer to harvest salmon and whitefish from the braided lagoons and shallow creeks.
While staying in Madera Canyon in Arizona, near the border of Mexico, I was able to see these Wild Turkey males strutting; one of the great avian courtship displays in the world, and one of the weirdest.
