Emphasizing #ExactObedience so heavily is a thought-stopping technique preventing people from using their God-given agency to think for themselves. We need to learn to trust the goodness that God baked inside of us. That's the only way we can reach our true potential.
#ExactObedience deprioritizes the needs of others in preference of our personal purity. It is not a wrong concept early on in life to help create a strong foundation for kids, but as an adult it needs to give way to the greater law of loving others. #secondhalfoflife
D&C 130:20-21 is a popular proof text for #obedience but is shallow when applied as such. The "law irrevocably decreed" is the law of grace and the Father's will, fulfilled by Jesus' obedience, which reconciles us to God and makes all blessings and even our existence possible.
The temple's main focus is #ExactObedience (i.e., covenants, garment symbols): Obedience, sacrifice, follow the Gospel, be chaste, consecrate, exactness, directional focus, spiritual nourishment, and submission. How do these help us focus on loving others?
Loving others is the highest law we have been asked to follow. #ExactObedience prioritizes loving God over others as if that's even possible. Second Coming, Second Anointing, second sons, second greatest commandment... Most Seconds precede the first.

One of the oldest precedents of recognizing the church had too much and told adherents they didn’t need to give any more. This was for building the Tabernacle. The church doesn’t need our money now and the people weren’t deprived of blessings by being turned away. #tithing

Scrupulosity is debilitating and our framing of sin, repentance, and atonement just makes it worse. Sin is when we lose sight of our divine identity. Repentance is growth and reorientation towards God. Atonement is knowing that nothing we can do will ever separate us from God.

Talk about scrupulosity rearing it’s ugly head.
Another #NearEnemy of love is #ExactObedience. D&C 58 says we should do good of our own free will and won't lose our reward. This is the #SpiritOfTheLaw. We are not expected to take “doctrine” at face value but discern for ourselves how it can build up God's kingdom on Earth.
Is #ministering the #NearEnemy to true friendship? When actions become obligations rather than genuine love, the connection breaks down. Maybe it's time to rethink how we approach these roles.
1 Cor. 13 says if you don't have love, you're nothing but noise. If teachings aren't based in love but are designed to control or manipulate, they’re #NearEnemies —and will only lead to disconnection.
#NearEnemies: Transformation is the goal of spiritual growth, not checklist obedience. In the Church, the #CovenantPath sometimes feels like stagnation. Growth requires deeper exploration, beyond just repeating ordinances.
#Humility means putting others first in love. But appeasing—acting humble while internally begrudging—is a #NearEnemy. True humility is free from ego; appeasement keeps ego alive.
Loyalty is often valued, but when loyalty is demanded, it becomes a #NearEnemy of love. If standing with marginalized groups is framed as a lack of loyalty to the Church, it's time to question what’s really at stake. #LoveOverLoyalty
#NearEnemies : Equality is a virtue rooted in love and lifting others. But in #Mormonism, idolizing women as “better halves” or "neck turning the head" maintains inequality. This isn't love—it's masking inequality under praise. Let's think critically. #GenderEquality
