Nigeria is gearing up to push for a higher oil production quota at the upcoming OPEC meeting in November, according to Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri. The minister says Nigeria’s current quota of 1.5 million barrels per day no longer reflects its true production capacity, with output now around 1.7 million barrels daily and the potential to exceed 2 million barrels. He adds that stronger infrastructure, improved security, and fresh investments in the oil sector have positioned Nigeria to make a strong case for an upward review. EFCC, NIS, NCoS Complete Deportation of 192 Foreigners Convicted for Cyber-Terrorism in Lagos The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has deported the remaining 51 foreign nationals convicted and sentenced for cyber-terrorism, internet fraud, and related financial crimes in Lagos, bringing the repatriation of the 192 foreigners involved in the crimes to a successful close. The deportation exercise followed the arrest and successful prosecution of 759 suspects during a major sting operation conducted by the EFCC on December 10, 2024, at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. The deportation exercise, which began on Friday, August 15, 2025, followed the conviction of the offenders by the Federal High Court in Lagos for offences bordering on cybercrime, money laundering, and ponzi scheme operations. The first batch of 42 convicts comprising Chinese and Filipino nationals was deported on August 15, 2025. Subsequent batches followed throughout August and September. The final batch of 51 convicts, including 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian, departed Nigeria on October 16, 2025, bringing the total number of repatriated foreigners to 192. The deported convicts include nationals of China, the Philippines, Tunisia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Timor-Leste. They were deported in coordinated batches between August and mid-October 2025, in accordance with court directives and immigration procedures. All the deported convicts bagged their imprisonment when they were arrested with their Nigerian accomplices believed to be members of a sophisticated cybercrime and ponzi scheme syndicate operating under the cover of Genting International Co. Limited. The operation , based on credible, actionable intelligence, and subsequent investigations, confirmed that the convicted foreigners were involved in large-scale online fraud, identity theft, and cyber-enabled Ponzi schemes. Evidence revealed that they trained recruits and managed fraudulent digital platforms aimed at defrauding victims both locally and internationally. The Nigeria Immigration Service deported them as directed by the court.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐚𝐱 I enjoyed granting this interview in Kenya with Julians Amboko, a brilliant financial journalist at Nation Media Group - the largest independent media organisation in East and Central Africa. Africa must remove disincentives to investment and barriers to growth, and revenue will follow. It’s time to rethink our revenue mobilisation strategy, including adopting a supportive rather than extractive approach toward the informal sector. • reduce withholding tax rates so businesses have cash for expansion • eliminate minimum tax - it's often a payment out of capital • exempt low income earners and smallest businesses - a nation can not become rich by taxing poverty. The economy of collection isn’t just about administrative efficiency or cost-to-revenue ratio. It’s also about the opportunity cost to the taxpayer. What did the payer give up by paying the tax? If we tax the seed in the hands of taxpayers today, we might boost short-term revenue, but we undermine long-term wealth creation and lose the opportunity to tax the fruits tomorrow. #SharingKnowledge #TheAfricaWeWant #RethinkingTaxPolicy

When Mr. Governor announced me as his Official Photographer a few months after appointing me as his Special assistant on photography, there were numerous doubts and speculations from different quarters. “She’s too young.” “She can't manage the Governor’s public photographs “She just joined the system.” “She is a lady where will she find the strength?” That day, I got home and broke down in tears. I kept asking myself, So because I am a lady? Because I look young? I prayed, God, you have to help me. I have the skill, but I’m being judged for how you created me The earliest I get home from work is 11 p.m., sometimes 2a.m. Yet, after every long day, I would open YouTube and watch videos on documentary photography: how to improve composition, how to see better angles, and refine my editing skills. Most times I sleep off while learning. YouTube became my silent mentor. I was determined not to disappoint my principal who believed in me. I didn’t just start showing up, I started showing up with intentionality and gradually, my belief in myself deepened! Soon, the narrative changed, from She can’t handle the Governor’s public photographs to Make sure Motun is there and other beautiful accolades followed. So if they say you can’t do it, maybe it’s simply your cue to focus more on yourself and on that passion God has placed in your hands. Hard work is louder than doubt. It silences criticism, reshapes perception, and commands respect. Keep showing up and keep improving, because when preparation meets consistency, even impossibilities begin to salute your effort💪 #themotunglobal
