I like the book’s adaptation of Dorothy way way more. In there she literally begged for Elphaba’s forgiveness for taking her sister’s shoes and even said that she didn’t want to kill her like the Wizard commanded her to. It was this kindness that Elphaba hadn’t experienced in so long that psychologically damaged her, as well as causing her to sympathize with Dorothy as they are both misunderstood outsiders. She tossed water on her to save Elphaba when she was engulfed in flame, unaware of the myth that water kills her. I think just reducing her into a spoiled brat who has no problem straight up murdering Elphaba and feels good doing it is not only uninspired but unreasonably cruel.
