The real punchline is the last line. Mind the power bill. GPUs are the easy part once you control the electrons to power it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. A must-watch for anyone in the GPU infrastructure space. Completely agree that concentrated power (5MW+) is hard to find and build. The move is to aggregate 1MW clusters across multiple sites to meet your compute & token needs. Inference is built for this model.
Neil Movva (@neilmovva) started his career at Nvidia, working on GPUs and kernels, and has an unusually deep understanding of inference, from software to chips to power. We spend a lot of time on each of those layers, how they connect, and where the important tradeoffs are.
If you want to purchase GPUs as a provider 1. find a site 2. find an offtaker with a lot of back and forth with your supplier 3.go to bank and say look a real customer 3.figure out how to finance GPUs (equity/debt/customer prepay) at $40M per available MW 4. bank lends money at 12-15% (wild!) interest over 3 years 5.Energize in three months Looking forward to seeing how the Nvidia deal with the asset managers changes the financing for GPUs. The industry surely needs it!
The compute crunch that we're experiencing today is a real-estate problem. Super bullish on what I'm working on to tap into existing power and cooling infrastructure that CRE has (and under utilized with the market condition of CRE) to energize chips.
