Students of Jahangirnagar University have organized a protest rally condemning the killing of Muslim lawyer Shaheed Advocate Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram, allegedly by radical Hindutva extremists ISKCON. Bangladesh 🇧🇩 #JusticeForShaheedAlif #BanISKCON #BanRSS #ISKCONTerrorist

The murder of Saiful Islam Alif should be a wake up call for Bangladesh in understanding what national security threats Hindutva groups like ISKCON and its supporters pose while being a “minority” within a minority. The lynching of a Muslim lawyer by the group’s supporters in broad daylight today in a (very likely) targeted attack with possible religious and political motivations, sounds like an act of terrorism.

The Murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram: An Analytical Perspective Today’s brutal killing of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram has raised serious concerns about communal tensions and the security of judicial processes in the country. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Advocate Saiful was exiting the main entrance of the court building and crossing the road towards the Government Muslim High School. At that moment, a group of attackers, reportedly affiliated with ISKCON, dragged him to the front of the Ronggom Community Center and killed him in a barbaric manner. Background and Questionable Context of the Murder This incident took place shortly after a court verdict against an ISKCON member in Chattogram. Despite the presence of law enforcement, the occurrence of such a heinous act highlights a significant lapse in the state’s security measures. Eyewitness reports indicate that the attackers were organized and deliberately targeted Advocate Saiful. This suggests that the murder was not merely an act of personal revenge but a calculated attempt to intimidate the judicial process and spread fear among legal professionals. ISKCON's Role and Controversial Activities Allegations of ISKCON members engaging in communal provocations and violent acts are not new. However, their alleged involvement in a direct murder raises serious concerns about the organization’s activities and its socio-political influence in Bangladesh. State Response and Public Expectations This tragic incident brings two critical issues to the forefront: 1. The Safety of Legal Professionals: The murder of a lawyer within the vicinity of the court severely undermines public trust in the judiciary. 2. The Risk of Communal Unrest: Such incidents can incite communal tensions, and it is imperative for the state and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and effectively to prevent escalation. The murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif is not an isolated event but rather a reflection of a deeper crisis. This is a wake-up call for the state to prioritize the security of legal professionals and ensure the integrity of the judicial process. First and foremost, there must be a thorough investigation into this heinous crime, and those responsible must face exemplary punishment. Additionally, an independent and impartial evaluation of ISKCON’s activities and its recent actions is essential to address the growing concerns surrounding its influence. #IndiaOut
