Several of my friends are job hunting and almost every one of them has had a role "cancelled" while they're mid interview process or after they've completed final interviews. I'm so curious to know what would cause for this to be a decently common occurrence.

Two theories: 1. Companies are pumping interview pipelines full of potential candidates. When they find the candidate they want, they drop the rest of the pipeline. 2. Companies not knowing what they actually need when they post openings? Any other theories?
@engineering_bae I’ve watched this happen a couple of times, and both times it was due to the budget being changed after the interview process began, which resulted in the role being closed.
