These config languages make an underlying assumption that your system is a loose collection of individual resources, organized in some hierarchy, and haphazardly strung together by ARN references and IAM policies. My applications do not look like that...

@allenholub Monoliths get a bad rap. Most programs are monoliths and should be. Most _systems_ should be internally articulated but monolithically deployed. Some should be articulated and deployed as a set of monoliths. Only a very few require the complexity of services.

@jasongorman Micro services are not an end unto themselves. They are not an architecture. They are a deployment strategy; and not always the best strategy. Pass that on too.

That's so true. Seen many obviously overloaded teams struggling cause economies are against them. The wish to "be the boss of more people" and the disregard to the possibility that "more people will get us there slower" (mythical man month) are some causes I've noticed.

The notion that "meetings" is not "work" is misleading due to the fact that in reality, so many meetings end up being pointless. Don't blame the tool though. Blame its users.

Try and use technical debt more as a competitive advantage and less as a way to mask poor decisions. The former was the internet of the metaphor, the latter is the reason it's seen as a bad thing.

My opinion on the effectiveness of building construction as a software development metaphor has changed from believing it isn't suitable to being very open to using it. This is mainly due to my increasing, unrelated to software, life experiences.
