Everybody writes the list of what to add. Write the second list too: what you're not adding this block. The new challenge, the extra finisher, the workout you saved last night. What's on your second list?
If you roll 3-4 times a week, your hardest training is already on the mat. Your strength work's job is to keep you rolling, not beat you up more. What breaks down first: knees, shoulders or back?
For people balancing work, life and training: what's harder right now, finding time, planning the week, or being ready for the next session? What's one thing that has helped you?
Three lifts + three practices = six sessions. Not six equally hard sessions. Not automatically too much. Count the whole week, then mark the demanding work. How many gym sessions and sport sessions did you do last week?
What fades first in your last round: grip, legs, or breathing between rounds? Before adding another workout, notice what happens and when. What sport do you train?
THE PHYSICAL BOXER:

Before adding more work:
Boxing comes first.
Sparring counts.
The last round must still look like boxing.
Three checks from the free Boxer Training Rules Cheat Sheet:

Hard sparring counts as hard training.
When sparring load rises, reduce optional conditioning and extra gym volume before sacrificing boxing quality.
This isn't “never train hard.” It's making the hard work fit.
Before adding more strength work:
Can you recover between sessions?
Is your movement improving?
Can you repeat the week alongside your sport?
Keep the work that earns its place.
Before you add another session, map the whole week.
Hard rounds. Strength. Work. Family. Sleep.
When sport load rises, reduce optional gym work.
Judge the plan by the whole week, not one impressive session.
What do you want your training to help you keep doing?
The mat. The surf. The trail. Keeping up with your kids.
Start with that answer. Then ask whether your week supports it.
Real strength after 40 is not the session that leaves you too cooked to train skill tomorrow.
It is strength you can build on next week, next month, and next year.
Foundation before intensity. Sustainability over grinding.

Run it for thirty days. If it does not give you more structure and a clearer path than what you had, email us and we will sort it out.
No circus. No fine print.
I would not offer that on a program I had not watched work.

Three phases. Twelve weeks.
Build the Base. Forge the Engine. Sharpen the Weapon.
Foundation before intensity is not the soft option. It is the only version that survives twelve weeks in a 40-year-old body.

The injury guide is not a disclaimer page.
Bad shoulder, there is a substitution. Bad knee, there is a substitution. Hip, back, same.
The plan does not stop when your body has a history. It routes around it.
That is what 28 years of coaching buys you.

"Just do more sprints" isn't a program.
You need aerobic base FIRST. Then layer repeat-power. Then top off with glycolytic.
Skip the base → you gas.
Skip repeat-power → your shots slow down.
Skip glycolytic → you die in OT.
It's a ladder. Climb it.

I started in 1998. Fighters, grapplers, wrestlers, boxers.
That is why I know the 40+ problem. I did not read about it. I watched it happen to hundreds of guys and had to solve it in the gym on a Tuesday.
The answer was never "do less."
getphysical.com/the-physical-4…
Two primary strength sessions a week. Not five.
The limiter past 40 is not how much work you can start. It is how much you can absorb and still train skill the next day.
Most guys are not undertrained. They are under-recovered.
