@QCompounding Adding to my list. What i keep from those two isn't a formula, it's how much of the time they just sat still.
@QCompounding Most of these were announced with big confidence. Now when a company i like announces a huge deal, i take it as a reason to check my rules again, not a reason to cheer.
@BrianFeroldi Transport is the sneaky one. I work in a car factory and i still think the cheapest car is the one you keep for twelve years.
@BrianFeroldi At my job we judge a production line by years of output, not one good shift. I try to judge a business the same way.
@BrianFeroldi The fear has never left me. What changed is that i wrote my buy rules on a calm day, so on a scared day i just follow the paper.
Netflix beat and fell 6% overnight. The price tells you the mood. The business tells you the story. I try to read the slower one.
@Revolut Card took ages at the till this morning, app wouldn't open. Glad the money's safe. Quiet lesson for me: a backup card is a margin of safety too. Never keep everything in one place.
Revolut went down this morning. My card took ages at the till, and the app wouldn't open. Nothing was lost. It was just a reminder: never keep everything in one place. Not your money, not your investments, not your plans. A backup card is a boring kind of margin of safety.
@QCompounding A list like this is where my watchlist starts. The harder part, for me, is waiting until the price fits my rules.
@Fiscal_ai A low multiple is where i start looking, not a reason to buy. I still want to picture the business ten years out first.
@TheLongInvest Sometimes the strategy was fine and the person kept breaking it. I'd check that before changing the rules again.
@BrianFeroldi My climb out of the valley started the day i wrote my rules down and stopped rewriting them every month.
@BrianFeroldi Took me too long to learn this. I bought for the kids future and then checked the price like was a weather app.
Yesterday was the anniversary of Black Monday, and half the internet was waiting for a crash. It didn't come. My rules would have the same thing either way.
The best foundation for a successful investment - or a successful investment career - is value. You must have a good idea of what the thing you're considering buying is worth.
I did it so they would not start from nothing, and so they would see that the hard part is the waiting.
I invest so that when the children are grown, we can choose what to do with our time instead of selling it. I started late. The compounding still has decades, and this is the first year I stopped changing the rules.
The Roadster flew for a few seconds. It was first shown in 2017. Production is now 2028. The hop was real. The calendar is the harder part.
History has the advantage that the ending is already written. Nobody is selling me a fund based on it.
@redaction He was the most famous investor at the beginning of the 20th century. I recommend the book "Reminiscences of a stock operator".
