There’s a trend I noticed in the last couple of weeks, and rightfully so, bashing call of duty warzone for lack of content, anti-cheat (or lack thereof), and overall less hype around the next cod release, with premise rumored to be around ww2.
All of this combined sure is frustrating to the genuine streamers and content creators. However, there are a few things I wanted to break down: a) the expectations from CoD is quite different than what you have from any other video game brands. Every major title gets stale…
whether they have yearly cycles or not but cod has to get it right because of its inherent competitive nature and community, and that’s what reflects in opinions of cod community (again rightfully so). b) CoD & Activision doesn’t have a regulatory body to comply with for any of..
creative game content (over simplification of ratings/reviews). As such it always will be a business decision that the companies are to assess and prioritize C) there is no incentive for the company to roll out all of their content at this time of the year. Frustrating, yes…
but today there isn’t anything that player base will switch over to immediately. They might later in the year when other titles release (if on time) and that’s when players see an overhaul-ish to warzone. If a new warzone map were to release now it’ll be stale pretty soon
Again, no incentive. That’s what led warzone to be Verdansk and very little else for 1.5 years - no real incentive to roll out a new experience in early 2021. D) overall ww2 theme. Business decision again; every title during the year cannot be near future…
or futuristic and of course these decisions by EA, Activision aren’t made in a silo. These orgs aren’t as disconnected as one might think and every title will compete to hold its own in the market.
Lastly, e) any proactive step by publishers will be a creative content release - even if it’s a complex feature of adding inherent anti-cheat. No incentive to be proactive at this time, vs reactive bans. A little to risky and game breaking that is best rolled out with the…
