A lot of the industrial policy arguments forget that the goal is an ecosystem. Sure the older chips aren’t cost competitive in the US now but they’re a great training program for new engineers, maybe there’s a new use case or company to be made, maybe there’s something else new.

The prime-age employment rate is now higher than the pre-recession peak. And it did so in record time, despite starting from a lower base. It's been a historically rapid and complete recovery. Took over 12yrs to get back to pre-recession peak following the Great Recession
