Huge congratulations to Takács Quartet for managing to include a very famous stage in their 50th anniversary concert tour, bringing Haydn, Ngwenyama and Ravel to the @nprmusic Tiny Desk! 🎊

100,000 people will die this year without receiving the palliative care that would ease the end of their life.

I choose solidarity.

'Rock Roses, Old Lodge, Taplow.' (1957) Stanley Spencer’s garden paintings celebrate the order, the gentleness, and the fondness that the English feel for their gardens, the vegetation is brought to life with feathery strokes, the walls are painted with near-obsessive precision.
Théo Van Rysselberghe painted this Portrait of Marguerite Van Mons in 1886. It was a period where he was trying his hand at various styles before converting to divisionism in 1888. The geometric background and his experiments with black indicate the influence of Whistler.
See some of you there, I hope, if we survive.

Ethel Sands' 'Still Life with a View Over a Cemetery,' reflects her work during WW1 when she and her partner Nan Hudson set up a hospital for soldiers near Dieppe. Sands was an exhibitor alongside some of the most important British artists of the time, including Walter Sickert.
WOW, these baskets are about 9,500 years old! 🤯
Look like they were made yesterday rather than by hunter-gatherers during the Mesolithic!
Made of esparto grass, they were found inside the Cueva de Los Murciélagos (Cave of bats), Spain.

'Blue Iris.' (1936) Stanley Spencer's flower paintings celebrate all the things that he thought quintessentially English and at a completely opposite end of the spectrum to the more challenging figurative compositions he produced during the same period.
