One thing we are adding in for our team this week are signs. Picks to 1st Pick to 2nd 1st and 3rd play…straight to second, hard throw to the P, and fake throw to 2nd. All called from dugout to catcher. Steals are audibles cues to players while they take leads of bags.

How we get better: Practice this week is 21 outs. Live base runners. 7 in the field (no pitcher/catcher) You want to play a position go there. You make an error, you’re baserunning. Win a position by holding it down the longest. Be transparent and let failure happen.

Fun fact from this weekend: Had a team steal home up 10 Followed by a suicide squeeze up 11 the very next play. No issues with it. Just very interesting how some coaches go about coaching a baseball game for middle school players.

First tournament this past weekend GM 1: 14-2 Loss GM 2: 26-0 Loss GM 3: 15-3 Loss Biggest struggle was simply making plays in the field. Not a lot of walks. Less errors as game went on. Biggest thing is physicality difference. If you can’t run and throw good luck.

Strat for the first tournament. 10 teams. 2 pool play games. Top 5 advance to bracket play. Going to throw all best pitchers first and look to go 2-0. I believe my pitching depth is not very deep. I want my them to have a chance to win it than be in the cons. bracket

Update continued: Very interesting to note… 1. almost all 12 kids are playing at least two sports this fall 2. Everyone has a pitching and hitting coach they go to for lessons 3. Majority of the team plays for a second fall team. 4. They are all weak, slow, and don’t train.

Outfield Fly Ball Drills Pretty basic. I liked to do these at least every other day. 1-2 reps per drill. Covers almost every ball you’ll get in the outfield minus slides, dives, wall balls, and ground balls. More proficient you are less distance on the flips needed.

Stealing Second Base I had my mom help me with this drill every other day when I played. I was able to steal 20 bases (20 for 24) in D1 baseball with average speed because of this very drill. I’ll break down more in depth base stealing techniques in another video. #KISS
