So I’m hiring for head of growth right now, and the interview process is just me giving them $2500 💰 They then spend it advertising our startup, and the most creative and effective marketers get to the final interview The strangest thing…very few candidates actually spent the money 😅 Out of the 8 candidates only 2 of them spent even a dollar To make things even more interesting, although I felt this was a reasonable take home assignment, I don’t like having people work for me for free So I even gave them affiliate incentives so they’d be compensated for the paid users they bring in with OUR money 🤯 I thought it’d be a fun challenge, but maybe the task was too hard or they felt it’d take too much time 🤷‍♂️ Some part of me feels like this is a win because I only want to work with scrappy people who can get results on small budgets But there were some candidates I thought had a ton of potential, but they ghosted haha Will think some more and tweak the next marketing interview accordingly Any theories on why there was such a big drop off? 🧐

People typically feel bad about their mistakes because they think in a shortsighted way about the bad outcome and not about the evolutionary process of which mistakes are an integral part. #principleoftheday (1/3)

One of the most common questions I get from entrepreneurs is what kind of metrics VCs look for when thinking through investments. Metrics are just one of many factors VCs consider, but here are my go-to resources for thinking through startup metrics:

I’m proud to announce the Voyager Scholarship with my friend @bchesky. We hope to provide young people with an interest in public service with some financial support to graduate college, exposure to travel, and the networks they need to make a difference. voyager-scholarship.obama.org

You know the future of metaverse is here when your developer just told you he got engaged with someone he was dating "virtually" for 3 years via Zoom (have never met in person FYI).

The best leaders are (both) demanding and supportive. (As a bonus, I would bet this is the only thing you'll read today that talks about Mike Moritz, my parents, and Game of Thrones) rkg.blog/demanding.php

@lennysan Been contributing product to @Climate_DAO and biggest differences: 1. Lot more experimental and room to test— web3 is still a new frontier 2. It’s more task oriented and a little less big picture oriented— you don’t necessarily “own” a product 3. Community is the new customer
