When a food is normalized, it no longer consumes you. It no longer has the power to make or break your day and does not hold space in your thoughts. It gets to become exactly what it is: just food. Not good, not bad, not right, not wrong…just food. loveandnourish.ca/blog/reintegra…
When you binge, the reaction is to "fix" it..to plan the next diet/eating plan, exercise plan etc. But if instead you can choose to stay on a regular pattern of eating: balanced plates at regular intervals of time.. you can get ahead of the next binge.Restriction leads to binges.
Binge eating disorder is much more common than anorexia or bulimia, impacting at least double the cases of both anorexia & bulimia combined, if not more.
In spite of this, it can often go undetected from family & friends, or not get taken as seriously.

Where do you restrict outside of food? All who binge also restrict. This happens on the plate (ie dieting) & also in life (ie canceling plans after a binge). The more awareness you bring to the patterns at play in both plate & life, the more you align with recovery.
Where do you binge outside of food? Perhaps shopping? Alcohol? Sexual partners? ... I have never worked with someone who binge ate who didn't also "binge" elsewhere. What is happening on your plate is happening in your life. Awareness of these life patterns is key to recovery.
Binge eating recovery truths:
1. What's happening on your plate is happening in your life
2. Restriction (mental or physical) leads to binges
3. Recovery & intentional weight loss cannot coexist-You need to recover from binge eating first
If you can try taking time for your meal as often as possible away from stressors (work/news/social media, etc), take a few deep belly breaths and find a moment of calm to eat your food it can make such a positive impact on your body's ability to digest more comfortably.
Just like we have positive associations around holiday treats & birthday cakes, we can also build more positive associations around nutritious meals. Eating whole foods doesn’t need to mean you are punishing yourself, but rather it's all just part of an additive, inclusive diet.
I love salads & smoothies. They make me feel amazing. I also love pizza & ice cream. I enjoy them all. Having a salad doesn't mean I need to restrict other foods I enjoy. Eating dessert doesn't mean I have “ruined” an otherwise healthy meal. Nutrition isn't mutually exclusive.
When you are so focused on what not to have, that becomes all you can think about! If you have already been there and done that with rules and restrictions, I invite you to explore an addition approach to your nutrition instead. loveandnourish.ca/blog/addition-…
My philosophy with nutrition can be summarized into one word: addition.
I firmly believe that it's essential to focus on what to add into our nutrition & lifestyles to feel our best: fully nourished, calm, grounded, energized & healthy, not what to remove.

Within eating disorder recovery, it is so valuable to be able to look beyond the plate and notice where the ED patterns are showing up in your life. This enables you to go deeper into the work and experience a complete recovery. loveandnourish.ca/blog/looking-b…
Those who binge eat, often binge elsewhere in their lives as well.
Some examples of this are:
binge shopping
binge drinking
binging on new diets and fitness plans
What is happening on your plate is happening in your life. The patterns of binge, purge and restrict will show up everywhere (family, social, home, mood, spending, food, substances, etc.). Awareness here can make a huge impact on recovery.
Too often, the first thing someone does when they decide to focus on their nutrition/health is look at what to remove. When you are so focused on what not to have, that becomes all you can think about! I invite you to explore an addition approach to your nutrition instead.
Weight loss and binge eating recovery...can they coexist?
Recovering from your binge eating disorder must come first. You need to be able to allow space to be free with your food & to not engage in mental or physical restriction. loveandnourish.ca/blog/binge-eat…
Binge eating & digestive issues go hand in hand. It's important, therefore, that when we are addressing your nutrition & working on overcoming binge eating, that we are also working on addressing & supporting your digestion. loveandnourish.ca/blog/digestion…
