This week's #EM_Monday is about mitochondria in glial cells. First example is in astrocyte's of dorsal ganglia of songbirds. The cristae of a lot of them seemed to be tubules, aligned mostly in the same orientation. The cross-section of two such mitochondria is shown (1/n)

Because of my PhD work, I carry this passion for membrane-less organelles. So for today's #EM_Monday I will share some of these membrane-less organelles in neurons. The first is the magnificent nucleolus, from a medium spiny neuron of songbird, showing off its subdomains.
What is the most interesting to me, though, is that there are lots of cytosolic membrane-less organelles detectable in MSNs, and the vast majority of them are associated with ER. This one shown by red arrow is in the cell body.
And these are two membrane-less organelles associated with ER in the dendrite of a MSN.

The idea behind SegCLR is simple: embeddings are learned using a contrastive loss where patches from nearby locations on the same cell should yield similar representations, whereas patches chosen from different cells should yield dissimilar representations. (1/5)
