@johncosgrove405 @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ If I recall, your experience was under the previous inspection framework?
@Class_Leading @johncosgrove405 @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ That doesn’t nullify his point. Even 90% of inspections are ran well, the 10% is a enough to make a mockery of the system and impact people personally and professionally
@Y6Mrs @johncosgrove405 @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ The reason I asked was the inspection framework has changed since. The reviews, comments and reports often do not make the distinction. If people are talking about changing the framework as it stands, comments about the previous framework have less relevance in those reviews...
@Class_Leading @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ The other point, of course, is that many of those giving evidence to the select committee and who did answer the question about the 2019 framework say it has made things worse. Particularly for primary schools.
@johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ The thing is, the number of direct submissions from schools is small (hence my suggestion of the silent, at least satisfied majority) There are a number of groups that may well be drawing on the same or similar evidence. None of the schools I know to be satisfied responded.
@johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ And there about 24000 schools in England and many thousands of inspections over the years. Not many schools seemed to feel the need to respond directly.
@johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @Julespg @MrTeece_ So how can we be sure this is representative?
@Class_Leading @johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @MrTeece_ I'm not sure 'representative' is the most important thing here. Fact is, some schools had a nightmare. I know personally of three HTs in 18 months who suffered MH breakdown as a direct result of inspection. That's not OK, even if 30 had a lovely experience.
@Julespg @johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @MrTeece_ I'm sorry to hear about the HT you describe here. I think 'representative' is exactly the issue however. Some issues and problems are not the same as systematic issues. You would deal with these in very different ways. If the system works for the majority, it doesn't...
@Julespg @johncosgrove405 @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @MrTeece_ ...necessarily need wholesale change. Individual issues should be dealt with via the systems and processes in place to deal with them. It is also important to support HT, leaders and other staff in general and particularly around inspection.
@Class_Leading @Julespg @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @MrTeece_ The problem of course is that the system doesn't "work" for anybody: not pupils, parents or teachers. Again, I refer you to the written evidence to the select committee. There is no reason at all to think the thousands who contributed to this are unrepresentative.
@johncosgrove405 @Class_Leading @Y6Mrs @life_learner23 @MrTeece_ Agreed, John - the example I gave is one of many. When stakes are so high, there’s no room for Ofsted to make a single mistake. But they do, as @sf_lang knows.
