Scoop: Starbucks managers have told baristas their trans-inclusive health benefits could go away if they unionize, staff in several states say in interviews and a new labor board charge bloomberg.com/news/articles/… “I know specifically, you have used the trans health-care benefits.”
@josheidelson @LillyAFowler Im suddenly in extreme favor of full Starbucks unionization. Dont let anti-trans intimidation tactics work.
@josheidelson The message they are sending there isn’t entirely combative though. I’m guessing a lot of plans may not be the same for them.
@josheidelson If the U.S. had a publicly-funded health care system that included gender-affirming care how could employers like @Starbucks use it as leverage to deter or entice its employees into a course of action?
@josheidelson @LaurenKGurley Starbucks leadership seems to be really screwed up. I was never a regular customer but damn there making it easy for me to not even be a casual customer.
@josheidelson @EyesOnTheRight How does the manager know any medical information about an employee?
@josheidelson @MollyJongFast that's what the union contact is for. Negotiate your health insurance
@josheidelson My 22 year old granddaughter works at a Starbucks in MI. She and her team have been celebrating Pride month with the approval of the store manager. It is disappointing to read that HIPPA has been violated at some locations and that they are intimidating employees.
