In 1998, I was fired from my corporate job while 9 months pregnant because and I quote, “my priorities would be elsewhere after the baby is born.” The lawyer I hired told me I didn’t have a case because discrimination like “that” was almost impossible to prove. So I got pissed. Took the LSAT. Went to law school. Passed the bar. Had 3 more kids. Twelve years later, another woman from that same company was fired for the same reason. She sued them for a million dollars, and won, partly because I had kept every piece of evidence from what happened to me years prior demonstrating a systemic pattern of discrimination against women. That company no longer exists. My law practice is thriving. And that baby they said would derail my priorities? She’s a brilliant attorney now working at my firm. Turns out my priorities were indeed, elsewhere.

I was 6 weeks postpartum. I came in because sex felt like I was being cut open. I told the OB “Something is wrong. I’m in pain.” She didn’t even examine me properly. Just smiled and said “Well… childbirth changes things.” Then she asked: “Is your husband complaining?” I said: “No. I’m complaining.” And she laughed like it was cute. Later another doctor finally checked me and said quietly: “You were stitched too tight.” They didn’t “fix” me for my comfort. They fixed me for a man’s.

I was in line at the bookstore & the guy behind me was talking shit about every woman in line "her boobs are out..." "those leggings are tight" "she's looking like a hooker" so I whispered "the guy behind us is looking at people's boobs" and my aunt faces the guy & says "this guy is looking at women's boobs??"…every woman in line looked at him with disgust, he got embarrassed and left... BRING BACK PUBLIC SHAMING!
