Plan 2 Student Loans explained. On a £49k salary I lose £128 a month to student loan repayments. We were told it would feel like a phone bill. Or a pint. Phone bill: £12.60 Pint: £6.30 Student loan: £128 That’s not even the worst part. Last tax year, interest added to my balance was £3,270. That’s £272.50 a month in interest. Borrowed: £35,171 Repaid: £16,104 Interest added: £32,627 I’ve paid back nearly half of what I borrowed. The debt is still bigger than when I started. A whole generation crippled by a policy. Students can’t afford to buy houses. Couples are thinking twice about having kids. Because £128 a month per person is a significant amount to be paying per person without any chance of clearing the balance.

Strangulation is a dangerous act of violence, masquerading as a consensual sexual habit during consensual sex. It's absurd to imagine that women and girls can or should consent to their own lives being at risk during sex. We need to culturally recategorize "choking".

Basically this is nuts. GPs train for medical school, postgraduate education, further exams, then ongoing forever learning. We learn how to distinguish between common causes and rare ones. It is ferociously hard. This sort of nonsense degrades expertise and safety: :

My view on the govt's reponse today to the Treasury Committee student loan report... --------------- This is a very disappointing response that does little to help the millions of students already struggling with student loans, after years of degradation of the terms they signed up to, by successive governments. Most urgently, it doesn’t address the coming immoral freeze of the Plan 2 repayment threshold, announced by Rachel Reeves, due to start next April. That will mean all those on Plan 2 loans will effectively pay more each year. I say it’s immoral because it is a negative retrospective change of terms to loan contracts students, often aged 18, signed up to. No commercial firm would ever be allowed to do that. The only slim hope is that as the freeze was announced in a Budget, it has to be undone in a Budget and therefore they are just waiting for the coming one to do that. At the same time, the Government has sadly rejected the Committee’s recommendation that the ‘fairness’ protections that holders of commercial loans get should apply to student loans too - perhaps as it knows some of the ways it behaves would fall foul of those conditions. Most frustrating is that back in 2015, I campaigned for this change, and even worked with current Cabinet Minister, Wes Streeting, then a backbencher, to put an amendment in Parliament (it failed). So, it is incredibly frustrating to see a government he is now a part of reject it. The Government has also rejected shifting the inflation link from RPI to CPI - continuing the unfair pattern that means when the Government raises our costs by inflation it’s often via the higher RPI, but on things where it pays out it’s often linked to the lower CPI measure. Of course, I welcome the small crumbs it has given that at least future students will be told in plain English, before they sign up, that the amount they repay can be altered after the event. But let’s be clear: better information for future students will not fix the existing Plan 2 student loan crisis. The repayment threshold needs to rise, interest needs to fall, maintenance support needs uprating, and the whole system requires a fundamental reset.

Israeli Settlements Are the Remedy for Jordan’s Ethnic Cleansing of Jews , Not the Crime ◾️If ethnic cleansing is illegal,and it is, international law cannot require that the cleansing be kept in place. ◾️And that is exactly what countries like the UK and others are trying to pressure Israel to do A small addition of mine to the great article in the @spectator from the brilliant @HausdorffMedia Before 1948 there were Jewish communities across Judea, Samaria and the Old City of Jerusalem. In 1948 those communities were destroyed or emptied. The Jewish Quarter was cleared of Jews. Gush Etzion was overrun and its people killed or taken prisoner. Under Jordanian rule Jews were barred from living in those areas, barred from the Western Wall, and blocked by law from buying property. Synagogues and graves were wrecked. By 1967 the land was Jew-free because Jews had been ethnically cleansed from it and kept out. Jordan occupied that land. That conduct broke the basic rules of occupation. Article 49(1) of the Fourth Geneva Convention forbids individual or mass forcible transfers and deportations of protected persons from occupied territory. Hague Regulations Articles 46 and 47 require respect for family rights, lives and private property and forbid pillage. Geneva Convention Article 53 forbids destruction of property in occupied territory except where rendered absolutely necessary by military operations. Geneva Convention Article 27 requires respect for the person, honour, family rights and religious convictions of protected persons. Emptying Jewish Jerusalem and Gush Etzion, wrecking synagogues and graves, and locking Jews out for 19 years is the opposite of those duties.That is ethnic cleansing. It fits the definition of crimes against humanity: deportation or forcible transfer of population, and persecution on ethnic or religious grounds, as later stated in Rome Statute Articles 7(1)(d) and 7(1)(h), and as already recognised in the Nuremberg Charter, Article 6(c). Jewish settlement after 1967 is not the implanting of a foreign population into someone else’s country. It is the return of a people to places from which they were expelled. Article 49(6) of the Fourth Geneva Convention bars an occupying power from transferring parts of its own civilian population into occupied territory. It was written against state-organised population implants, not against Jews going back to Hebron, Gush Etzion or the Old City after they had been driven out. The right to return to one’s own country is stated in UDHR Article 13(2) and ICCPR Article 12(4). ICCPR Articles 12 and 26 protect freedom to choose residence and equal protection of the law. A rule that Jews may not live in those places because they are Jews fails those provisions.A ban on those settlements does not merely regulate Israel. It treats Jordan’s ethnically cleansed map as the lawful baseline. ILC Articles on State Responsibility, Article 41, require states not to recognise as lawful a situation created by a serious breach of a peremptory norm, and not to aid in maintaining that situation. UN Charter Article 2(4) forbids acquisition of territory by force; the fruits of such a seizure are not a title the world is bound to conserve. Preserving a Jew-free Hebron and Old City is recognition of the result of the ethnic cleansing by Jordan. That conflicts with the ban on deportation, the ban on destruction and demographic erasure under occupation, the duty not to recognise the fruits of a serious breach, and equal treatment of expelled peoples. If ethnic cleansing is illegal,and it is, international law cannot require that the cleansing be kept in place. And that is exactly what countries like the Uk and others are trying to pressure Israel to do To keep the result of ethnic cleansing of jews by Jordan intact.

This is useful! I contacted them in January and they admitted to being late. 8/12 later no response so now escalating to the ombudsman. They have a legal duty to inform members of their pension position. The scheme is so complex and obtuse it’s impossible to work out liability
