There is no evidence supporting that legalization of marijuana would impact the use of it by adolescents. The percentage of high school kids who have tried the drug is the same in states where it is legal and where it is not! (21%)
Legalization would not only boost the marijuana business, but would also boost other industries where tools and services necessary for growing/selling are provided. Ex- warehouse space, contractors
Amsterdam legalized recreational marijuana and Canada plans to do the same this summer. Both countries have lower crime rates than in the U.S.
Charlotte Figi is a 5-year-old with Dravet Syndrome. She began a high CBD low THC treatment. This decreased her seizures from 300 a week to just one every seven days. Marijuana works!
Here’a a quick video explaining the top ten health benefits of marijuana!!! m.youtube.com/watch?v=87lTwn…
Prohibition is obviously not working- the Monitoring the Future survey reports that 4 out of 5 high school students say marijuana is easy to get. People make their own choices concerning marijuana and the law often doesn’t stop them. Why continue to punish them?
Many people believe that marijuana is an addictive substance, but dependence liability for marijuana is actually less than 10%. Compared to other legal prescription drugs and alcohol and tobacco, use of marijuana is far less addictive.
THC, the active ingredient present in marijuana slows the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Gavin Newsom, lieutenant governor of California and former mayor of San Francisco is a strong advocate for legalization and once said, "These [recreational marijuana users] are incredibly upstanding citizens: leaders in our community, and exceptional people..”
Trump has been trying to create jobs since he has begun his presidential term, and marijuana legalization would afford so many people the opportunity to get a job. It would allow business owners to set up marijuana dispensaries, grow operations and nurseries.
In 2015, Colorado collected more than $135 million in taxes and fee on medical and recreational marijuana. Sales in the state totaled over $996 million. Sales in North America grew 30%, to $6.7 billion, in 2016, and is projected to increase to $20.1 billion by 2021.
In 1996, California became the first state to legalize medical marijuana. Since then, 28 states and D.C. have joined.
President Jimmy Carter once wrote to congress, “penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed.”
The Boggs Act of 1951 created a minimum sentencing of 2-10 years and fines up to $20,000 for the possession of marijuana. This is close to $200,000 today. How absurd is this?
Samuel R. Caldwell became the first person arrested for marijuana in 1937, just two months after the “Marihuana Tax Act” was signed. He served three years in prison.
In 1937, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the “Marihuana Tax Act” which put a national ban on marijuana.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) classifies marijuana as a schedule 1 drug, meaning it has no health benefits and puts people at high risk for abuse. There is abundant scientific evidence saying otherwise, but the DEA has no plans to remove marijuana from this list.
The prohibition of marijuana costs tax payers billions and billions dollars each year in enforcement costs and the loss of potential and substantial tax revenue.
Thankfully, the stereotype of marijuana making a person sluggish, lazy, stupid, and unconcerned is starting to fade. In fact, CEOs Gary Johnson and Richard Branson both admit to being regular marijuana users.
According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, “There is no conclusive evidence that the drug effects of marijuana are causally linked to the subsequent abuse of other illicit drugs.” Contrary to popular belief, marijuana is not a gateway drug!
