This ‘not all men’ hashtag is grinding my gears after the senseless murder of Sarah Everard. This is not the time for #whataboutery this is about what all women have had to accept for far too long, that it in 2021 it is still ‘normal’ to walk home concerned for their safety.
Since Sarah Everard went missing last week, six women and a girl have been reported as having being killed by men in this country. As @jessphillips points out, though random abductions may thankfully not be common, this is NOT a rare crime.
Monday: happy international women’s day! Women should feel empowered to call out bullying and abuse.
Tuesday: how dare a woman speak out about something that’s had a huge impact on her mental health?
Wednesday: if women choose to walk home alone then they put themselves at risk.
A thought: every woman I know right now is discussing women’s rights / safety / harassment / sexism. None of the men I know are doing so amongst eachother. I’ve said it before - nothing changes until men talk about this stuff with other men, when no women are around as audience
Being a woman: my "outside" day finishes at sundown. If I haven't taken the dog for a walk/jogged by then, I can't. In the winter, it often means the choice between exercise and work. Today, I had to stop work at 4 to exercise. My husband worked until 6, and is now off for a run.
What happened to Sarah Everard has hit home hard for so many women because we make the calculations she did every day too. We take the longer, better-lit route, push the fear aside for the voice that says ‘don't be daft, you've every right to walk home alone at night and be safe’
From Monday we will bolster the Government’s weekly £15 School Meal Vouchers to £20. The extra £5 can provide children in England with nutritious meals each day at home. So you can get breakfast & lunch for 2 children for £20.
See our nutritionists' planner for meal inspiration.
Then imagine we expect the children to engage in learning from home. Not to mention the parents who, at times, have to teach them who probably haven’t eaten at all so their children can...

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Don’t judge young people evacuating London when you’re sat in your house by a wood-burning stove - surrounded by a family and a dog.
While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last—because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.
Very disappointed that the new Covid tier 2 means stricter measures for the hospitality industry in the West Mids, which will now need immediate financial support. My reaction to the changes 👇🏻
