@lizziethat @TheBestParker_ @DeeClose1 All of this.. the adaptation completely missed bringing to the forefront WHY Kate and Anthony worked. Understanding the loss of parents, the fear of dying young, the responsibility as the older sibling and the beautiful relationship between sisters 🥲
@lizziethat All I wanted from season 2 was a proper library scene. If they gave us that, I wouldn’t have cared that much about everything else. The library scene was so important for them and I can’t understand why it was taken out
@lizziethat This is why everything HP gives me such a bad taste in my mouth now. Even if it was such a big part of my childhood when I think about her it just ruins it
@CRDimpact @lizziethat The biggest one is that there was absolutely no love triangle in the books. Edwina wasn’t remotely interested in Anthony; she was in love with a scholar and was hugely supportive of Kate. There was no illogical and forced “I know my own mind and you suck, HALF-sister” moment.
@CRDimpact @lizziethat There were other changes, of course. Kate and Anthony were caught during the bee sting scene and had to marry. So we got more of their HEA. Also, the book delved more into Kate’s backstory and trauma as she and Anthony bonded. (She’s PETRIFIED of thunderstorms, for example.)
@CRDimpact @lizziethat It’s been a while since I read the book, but I think the Mary/Kate dynamic was different. Like Mary was genuinely a mother to both her daughters; she didn’t leave the responsibility for the family’s survival on a child’s shoulders and then attack her when things went wrong.
@CRDimpact @lizziethat (But that also ultimately goes back to the fundamental difference in the sisterly relationship being mutually supportive and without a contrived love triangle - there was no reason for Mary to take sides between her daughters in the book, I don’t think.) Hope that helps!
